Afrika Sikhulise NPC herewith referred to as AFRIKA NPC was established in April 2023 by the General Thanduxolo Mcotheli Memorial Presbyterian Church (GTMPC) the congregation of the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa (UPCSA) within the jurisdiction of the Western Cape Presbytery. With specific purposes, a vision, mission, objectives, and goals to work together to achieving them as a community of believers brought together by God’s grace. This is informed by the profound understanding of enormous availability of human capital, greatly varying pool of expertise, and resources to align Afrika Sikhulise vision and its collective endeavours with the 2015 United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), South African government’s national plans, provincial and local government plans to serve the communities and to reach out to touch and change people’s lives daily. Mostly driven and informed by God’s inspired vision to reconcile and restoration of human dignity through proclamation of his redeeming love, care, and purpose to reclaim all our humanity.
LEGAL APPROACH
Afrika NPC is officially registered as nonprofit company (NPC) in terms of the Companies Act of 2008 in the Republic of South Africa (RSA) to service the country and motherland Afrika in a variety of ways including nurturing God’s care to restore people’s humanity (Ubuntu) and human dignity through coordinated sustainable development programmes.
It is designed to and works on application to secure the Public Benefit Organization (PBO) Section 18A certificate from the South African Revenue Services (SARS) in terms of South African laws including the Constitution Act 108 of 1996 to make a difference.
It exists as an independent entity largely established to function accordingly and is independent from all its directors including the founding directors to purely exist and operate on its own name, liable to held accountable for its actions, could sue, or be sued on its own name, except if deeds of negligence and corruption from the board.
CONTEXTUAL BACKGROUND
Afrika NPC is located at 73 Dlali Street, Wallacedene, in Kraaifontein here in Cape Town. Africa is globally known as a cradle of humanity. Over several years many of her own children migrated to populate different parts of the world, and some of them returned home as European natives with Christian missionary activity to convert and conquer Africa, and extract its natural resources camouflaged within the redeeming power of the gospel. Women, children, and youth have always suffered severely in the face of all the injustices.
Africa has seen lots of injustices inflicted upon her people and the exploitation of the gospel turned out to be a powerful weapon for liberation, exclusion from opportunities, very rapid increase of poverty, dispossession wars, unemployment, poor education, degradation of all people’s human dignity, cultural heritages, languages, and old calls for the restoration of Africa, and all beauty of education. This contextual background places Afrika Sikhulise NPC at the centre of change as an independent entity within the City of Cape Town to nurture hope, and cultivation of collective empowerment of all communities with Ubuntu. Now the very community of Wallacedene and Bloekombos are known for their battles of farmland evictions and the victory of the landless people expressed in the Grootboom Constitutional Court judgement by the CONSTITUTIONAL COURT OF SOUTH AFRICA in October 2000.
In the face of power and poverty of skills, hunger, gender-based violence, crime and health, the Church was caught supporting, and vehemently opposing oppressive regimes’ laws. In a democratic society the Church is called to social justice, restoration, and rebuilding goals. The evolving story of Africa, and by extension of Kraaifontein and South Africa entails very blended cultural heritages marked by mixed blood, and languages, and all education itself. The modern written language of isiXhosa was given birth by Christian Missionary pioneers of the Presbyterian Church from Europe in Scotland who played pivotal role to advance the Christian gospel in the Eastern Cape and started with the writing of isiXhosa in December 1823 while Khoisans got first classes by Dutch settlers in April 1658 in Cape Town. We have a new generation of people with ability to weave a story of hope and to write a story.
